According to a statement issued by the agency in Lagos on Wednesday, Mr. Mustapha Ahmed, the Director-General of NEMA, officially received a group of returnees on behalf of the Federal Government. The returnees consist of 52 adult males, 46 adult females, four male children, two female children, and five infants.
The arrival of the returnees took place at the Cargo Wing of Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Ikeja on Tuesday evening. Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the Coordinator of the Lagos Territorial Office, represented Mr. Ahmed during the reception of the returnees.
The Director-General stated that the returnees arrived on an Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800 aircraft bearing the registration number 5A-DMG.
Furthermore, the Director-General emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing the economy and ensuring that its benefits are accessible to all. He provided assurance that the administration, led by President Bola Tinubu, would prioritize youth empowerment and seek to harness their energy and technological skills for the country’s development.
“The President would evolve a policy that will see youths and women actively participating in the implementation.
“The youths will be the driving force of all decisions in the present administration because of the importance that the leadership of this nation has placed on tapping the potentials which abound in the largest segment of the population,” Ahmed said.
According to a report from NAN, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has been facilitating the return of Nigerians stranded in Libya with the assistance of international partners. This initiative has been ongoing since 2017.
